Anthony Leon is a ‘two steppin’, head bangin’ songbird. An energetic rock‘n’roll poet with a penchant for words and a passion for story – fancy boots, and a PBR t-shirt, a loose tongue and impressive side burns, driving 5 under on the highway with the windows down and the radio blaring. A self proclaimed ‘Hippie-Billy’, Leon is a storyteller, weaving his sermon of love and loss, feast & famine in with your own. You know him and he knows you. A top rate entertainer, rarely does Leon leave a show in a dry shirt. His music reflects some thick country blood running through his veins but is strewn with rock, bluegrass, blues and honky-tonk.
A true son of the South, Anthony grew up roaming through Virginia, South Carolina, Mississippi, and Texas. Eventually hitting the road with the girl and the guitar, Leon was California bound, but ended up making an 18 year stop in Santa Fe, New Mexico. In Santa Fe, Leon found a close knit community of musicians, artists and miscreants, a few in particular becoming his ‘Chain.’ Drummer Daniel Jaramillo, guitar player Benito Rose Plaza, and bassist David Badstubner, were the core of the good timers comprising ‘Anthony Leon & the Chain’ who took Santa Fe and Southern Colorado by storm in 2012, winning accolades from the Santa Fe Reporter’s annual ‘Best of Santa Fe’ contest several years in a row, and playing over 2500 live shows across the region.
Anthony Leon, with and without his ‘Chain’ has had the honor of sharing the stage with a multitude of talented national acts including Billy Joe Shaver, Infamous String Dusters, Reckless Kelly, Lukas Nelson, Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers, The Silent Comedy, Eddie Spaghetti & The Supersuckers, Lucero, Dave Simonett of Trampled by Turtles, and many more.
